Captain Ryan Heffernan has served with the Bremerton Police Department for 19 years, holding a variety of assignments throughout his career. He began as a detective in the Department’s Special Operations Group before being promoted to sergeant, where he initially supervised the third watch patrol shift. He later went on to oversee both the Special Operations Group and the General Investigations Unit. Ryan was subsequently promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the Support Services Division, which he now oversees as captain.
Before entering law enforcement, Ryan served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alaska. He was raised in Virginia and holds a Bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College and a Juris Doctor from Rutgers University. Outside of work, Ryan is an avid cyclist and recently completed the grueling Leadville 100 MTB race.
