City of Bremerton Continues to Monitor Executive Orders
Over the past few weeks, Mayor Wheeler has directed City staff to learn more about Executive Orders issued by President Trump relating to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) practices and their potential impacts to City operations.
As part of those efforts, Mayor Wheeler’s focus is to ensure transparency of the process and to report on the on-going efforts to understand the impacts of the executive orders with the Bremerton City Council and the public. A document of current known impacts was presented last night to the Bremerton City Council at its regular scheduled study session to highlight the work that’s been underway.

The document outlines the history of when Executive Orders were issued while the City was in the process of filling a Diversity and Community Engagement Manager position. As the process was underway for filling the position, the City was taking great care to monitor the Executive Orders and activity at the federal level. The City determined more time was needed to fully review the Executive Orders, determine risks to federal funding for City operations and projects, and to communicate with the City Council and the public on the impacts. A temporary pause was placed on filling the Diversity and Community Engagement Manager, and the City is continuing to gather further information. Mayor Wheeler will continue to provide regular updates to the City Council and the public as more information is gathered and becomes available.
