Excessive Heat Warning Issued for Bremerton through Monday, June 28; Cooling Stations Available to Get Relief from the Heat

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for this afternoon (Friday) through Monday evening for the City of Bremerton and Western Washington region. Temperatures are expected to reach the high 90s and hit above 100 degrees Sunday and Monday. Due to the weather forecast, the City of Bremerton is providing information for residents.

“With the expected high temperatures, I urge residents to watch out for one another and check up on relatives and neighbors. It’s also important to drink more water and limit or reschedule strenuous activities outside. As a reminder, please do not leave infants, young children, or pets unattended in vehicles for any reason,” said Mayor Wheeler. “If swimming at beaches, lakes and rivers, please take precautions and use safe water practices in and around the water.”

The Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management (KCDEM) has established “cooling stations” throughout the county where residents and vulnerable citizens can go to relieve themselves from the heat. Free bottles of water will also be available. Cooling stations are available at the following locations:

Bremerton/Central Kitsap

  • Salvation Army, 832 6th St, Bremerton. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (regular operating hours).
  • Summit Ave Presbyterian Church, 403 S Summit Ave, Bremerton. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

North Kitsap

  • Poulsbo City Hall, 200 Moe St NE, Poulsbo. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • North Point Church, 1779 NE Hostmark St, Poulsbo. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

South Kitsap

  • Port Orchard Marina, 707 Sidney Pkwy, Port Orchard. (Mobile Command Center near marina). Saturday, Sunday, Monday. From 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

To protect public health, we are not able to turn on the Harborside and Memorial Plaza fountain systems at this time due to a West Coast shortage of sodium hypochlorite, which disinfects and maintains state water quality for the public. The supplier is currently prioritizing delivery of the disinfecting agent for wastewater and drinking water due to the limited supply.
