Information Regarding Halloween Activities and Events

I know these have been challenging times, and as a community, we continue to receive new information daily on the rate of COVID-19 infections across our county and in our city. Every individual contribution makes the difference to reducing spread of the virus. As we move into the winter months, enter flu season and spend more time indoors, this becomes a greater challenge. Following health guidelines becomes even more important to prevent spread of the virus and to protect vulnerable friends, loved ones, neighbors and co-workers in our community.

With Halloween a few weeks away, Kitsap Public Health, the Washington Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control have outlined that traditional Halloween events and activities can have an increased risk of spread of COVID-19. With this in mind, and with careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to announce that private and public Halloween events and activities – including door-to-door trick or treating, “trunk or treating” with parked cars, and attending crowded Halloween parties and events – should be cancelled this year. Due to potential spread of the virus, I believe these steps are in the best interest of protecting the health and safety of our residents.

I do want to encourage alternative activities this year to celebrate Halloween at home with your household, including carving pumpkins, decorating, having a scavenger hunt with family, and watching spooky movies.

I’ve shared links below with tips and health guidelines from Kitsap Public Health, Washington State Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control on more ways to have a safe and healthy Halloween this year.
