[ARCHIVED] Message from Mayor Wheeler

Emergency Order Permits Bremerton Restaurants to Apply for Outdoor Seating

Today, Mayor Wheeler signed an emergency order to create outdoor seating for restaurants and taverns in Bremerton that are facing significant economic impacts caused by COVID-19. The emergency order permits outdoor dining on public on-street parking for those that can meet certain safety conditions. Read the order here.

Four restaurants already have plans in place to expand their seating into public parking spaces in front of their businesses. Other proposals will be considered that meet safety conditions outlined in Mayor Wheeler’s emergency declaration. The initial restaurants approved for outdoor dining include:

  • Manette Saloon as well as Hound + Bottle establishments on 11th Street. Parking in front of their businesses will be converted into outdoor dining during their normal operating hours.
  • The Horse & Cow Bar and Grill as well as TNT/Tacos N Tequila restaurants on 4th Street. They will offer seating outside using existing on-street parking.

“Being able to expand seating outdoors will help restaurants who have had to limit indoor dining to customers under Phase 2 of the Governor’s Safe Start reopening plan,” said Mayor Wheeler. “Restaurants are centers of the community and are places that people can go to relax and celebrate. Opening up seating outdoors will not only offer some relief to restaurants facing financial hardship due to the pandemic, but also provide residents more options for dining in our City.”

The resolution goes into effect immediately and will remain in place until October 15, 2020.

The expansion of dining into outdoor spaces follows recommendations by the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) as a way to help reduce financial impacts to dining establishments.
