City Suspends Timed, On-Street Parking in Downtown and 5-Day Parking Rule in Neighborhoods

Bremerton, WA (March 26, 2020) – To encourage social distancing and to protect the public, the City is temporarily making emergency changes to parking rules in support of essential workers, those who need critical services and care, and residents complying with stay at home orders and health directives. These include:

  • Lifting restrictions on timed, on-street parking in the downtown core (boundary from Warren Avenue east to the waterfront, and 6th Street south to the shipyard fence).
  • Suspending enforcement of the 5-day parking rule in all residential neighborhoods.

Effective immediately, the suspension of parking enforcement will take place through April 6, 2020.

Opening up parking restrictions downtown will assist essential workers who are critical to maintaining operations and services and are not able to take transit or share rides due to social distancing measures. During this time, residents who need to go to medical appointments, among other critical services, will be able to use open on-street parking downtown. Additionally, restrictions will be eased in neighborhoods for those staying at home due to current health directives.

"These parking changes are temporary but are important in assisting our essential personnel and residents who are complying with social distancing practices to reduce the spread of the coronavirus," said Mayor Greg Wheeler. "We will continue to evaluate conditions over the next few weeks and may take further steps in response to COVID-19."

The City will continue to enforce:

  • Other "No Parking" and on-street parking violations
  • Emergency access and public safety violations, including, but not limited to: parking in alleyways, red zones, blocking fire hydrants, parking in fire lanes, and “No parking” zones with posted signs.

City-owned parking garages and lots will continue to operate as normal. Additional actions may be considered as the situation evolves. For additional resources and information on COVID-19, visit www.BremertonWA.gov
