Jim Burchett

Chief Jim Burchett joined the Bremerton Police Department in February of 1993. Initially working in Patrol as a uniformed officer, Jim was assigned to the Special Operations Group as a detective in 1996.

In 1997 he became a K-9 handler, first working with K-9 Reno and then K-9 Zaro, both German Shepherds.

In 2001 Jim was promoted to sergeant and worked the graveyard watch.

In 2002 he became a detective sergeant with the General Investigations Unit. Jim was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2003 and returned to the Patrol Division.

In 2006, Jim was promoted to Captain and given command of the Support Services Division, which is comprised of the non-uniformed services:

  • Community Resources
Jim has a bachelor's degree in Administration of Justice from Chapman University. 

In July 2018 Jim was promoted to Chief of Police.
