Bremerton School Zone Safety Improvements

The project upgrades school zone signage and installs speed feedback signs and/or flashing beacons at the following schools in Bremerton:

  • Armin Jahr Elementary
  • Crownhill Elementary;
  • John D. “Bud” Hawk Elementary
  • Mountain View Middle
  • Naval Avenue Elementary

This project addresses significant speeding conditions found in school walk zones adjacent to Middle and Elementary schools throughout the City and will improve the safety of pedestrians walking in these areas.

Project Status

  • Design Phase: The City, utilizing engineering staff delivered this in house safety project for construction. Design was completed in 2025 and construction management will be performed by City staff.
  • Construction Phase: The City, through a public and competitive bidding process, verified the lowest responsive and responsible bidder and awarded the construction contract for the project to New Line Services Inc on 7/8/25. City Council approval followed on 7/16/25. The construction contract amount with New Line Services Inc amounts to $146,995.00
  • A pre-construction conference to be scheduled for August 2025 with NTP anticipated for September 2025.

Funding

The project is funded by a Safe Routes to Schools State grant in the amount of $244,000.
