Fire Suppression
The Bremerton Fire Department (BFD) is a full-time professional emergency response agency, which provides firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services to the City of Bremerton, as well as providing automatic and mutual aid to our neighboring districts and cities. BFD operates from three stations which each operate 24/7 with career firefighters. The BFD staffs each of its sub-stations with a fire engine and a medic unit, and Station 1 responds with a 104' aerial platform truck, a medic unit, and a Command Unit.
The Bremerton Fire Department was established on May 13, 1902, making it the oldest fire department in Kitsap County, and one of the oldest in the State of Washington. In addition to its fire suppression activities, the BFD provides water rescue with Marine 20 and rescue swimmers to protect the 53 miles of shoreline that surround the city. These assets, as well as the robust infrastructure of the City of Bremerton, have earned the BFD a Class three (3) rating with the Washington State Ratings Bureau (WSRB).
The BFD responds to over 9,000 emergency response calls each year.
Emergency Medical Services
Emergency Medical Service (EMS) is the most commonly used service of the Bremerton Fire Department. Nearly 90% of all 9-1-1 calls for the BFD are EMS related. To respond to these calls, every member of the BFD is trained and certified to either the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level or the more advanced Paramedic level. The mission of the BFD's EMS program is to provide the highest quality emergency medical treatment to those in need, while rapidly and safely providing them transport to the nearest appropriate medical facility.
The Bremerton Fire Department provides EMS to the entire City of Bremerton at both basic and advanced life support levels. BFD's EMTs and Paramedics are highly trained medical professionals, providing some of the very best pre-hospital care available.
Bremerton Fire Department EMTs and Paramedics work under the direction of the Kitsap County Medical Program Director (MPD), Doctor Joe Hoffmann.
